One device – Multiple uses
CBRN events involving radiological and/or nuclear material are numerous and can be very varied: accident in a nuclear power plant or a storage factory, lost medical or industrial source, dirty bomb, radiological exposure devices, accident involving a vehicle transporting a radioactive source… Each of these events requires an appropriate response depending on the type of event, the materials involved, the victims, equipment, and infrastructure exposed.
With its wide range of dedicated probes, SaphyRAD MS enables first responders to deal with all these events with the same device.
Each Probe Has Its Own Missions
SaphyRAD MS is a single device covering all stages of response to a CBRN event thanks to its interchangeable probes throughout the intervention. From searching for and locating the source to identifying radionuclides and controlling contamination, each probe has its own mission!
The radiometer, for dose and dose rate management
Saphyrad MS monitor includes two GM tubes (high-flow & middle flow) for dose and dose rate management during all the event.
The Gamma probe, for source detection and localization
Thanks to its extremely high detection sensitivity – 500 times more sensitive than the GM tubes embedded in the monitor -, the gamma probe is perfectly suited for quickly searching for and locating sources in a wide area.
The Beta probe, for global contamination control
With its 16m2 Pancake GM, the Beta probe enables Alpha, Beta and Gamma radiation, with a particular sensitivity to Beta radiation. This probe allows for comprehensive contamination control in cases where Alpha/Beta discrimination is not required.
The Alpha probe, for contamination control with Alpha discrimination
Dedicated to Alpha radiation detection and contamination control, the Alpha probe enables direct detection or through a filter.
The Wound probe, for Alpha contamination control in wounds
With its pen shape, the alpha wound probe enables Alpha contamination control inside wounds. This probe provides essential information for victims sorting to bring them the appropriate medical care.
The X-ray probe, for distance contamination control
X-ray probe uses low-energy X-ray and gamma radiation for contamination control at several tens of cm. This probe enables to protect the responders and limits their contamination by keeping them at distance.
The Neutron probe, for neutron radiation detection in critical events
Mainly dedicated to expert teams, the neutron probe is suited to detect neutron radiation with a very high sensitivity in the event of a nuclear attack, a critical incident in a nuclear power plant or an intervention in the heart of a reactor.
The Identification probe, to identify the radionuclides
With its unique and innovative algorithm, the Identification probe is able to identify 8 radionuclides simultaneously in less than 1 min. This probe provides critical knowledge for the responders and medical teams to accurately characterize the radiological threat they face.
A Wide Range of Probes, The Same Monitor During the Whole Operation
The dose and dote rate values measured by the SaphyRAD MS radiameter are measured and displayed continuously from the moment the device is turned on, regardless of the probe used. Each probe can be plugged and unplugged while the device is in use, allowing to use the same device monitoring the dose, dose rate and activity during all the event whether for source detection, identification, or contamination control operations. Finally, the SaphyRAD MS monitor detects if and which probe is plugged and automatically adapts the settings and the information displayed.
Multiple & Adaptive Configurations to Face All the Needs
SaphyRAD MS and its probes are available in multiple configurations to meet the needs of military, first responders and first-aiders, bomb disposal teams, specialized and non-specialized teams.
Bertin offers three standard kits that meet most end-user needs. However, each user can put together a customized kit with the probes of their choice to meet their specific needs.
Each probe can also be delivered separately and additional probes can be furnished to complete existing kits and extend the detection and identification capabilities and uses cases.
