CBRN SoS consortium advances Europe’s defence against CBRN threats

Following the launch of the CBRN SoS (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear System of Systems) project earlier this year, on 7–8 October, partners of the CBRN SoS (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear System of Systems) project, of which Bertin Environics is a proud member, convened at the Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna for a pivotal General Assembly. Co-funded by the European Defence Fund, the three-year initiative is developing a federated, modular information system to boost Europe’s ability to anticipate, respond to, and recover from CBRN threats. The two-day meeting marked a major step forward for the consortium, offering an opportunity to take stock of progress, align on strategic priorities, and set the course for the project’s next phase.

During the discussions, partners finalised the project’s mission definition and validated the preliminary requirements, two major achievements that will guide the technical and strategic development of the project in the months ahead.

The meeting also welcomed representatives from several European Ministries of Defence, including those of Austria, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Sweden, whose participation reaffirmed the strong institutional support for the consortium’s work to strengthen Europe’s preparedness and resilience against CBRN threats.

The European Federated Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear System of Systems (CBRN SoS) project aims to create a flexible, modular information system for integrating CBRN defence tools across EU Member States and Norway. This system is designed to enhance the speed and effectiveness of CBRN responses through the integration of CBRN Defence technologies into a comprehensive software system with seamless data sharing.

Coordinated by AIT, the project brings together a consortium of 12 EU Member States and associated countries. It is co-funded by the European Commission under the 2023 edition of the European Defence Fund).

Bertin Environics’ Role in CBRN SoS Project

As an integral partner, Bertin Environics continues to contribute its extensive expertise in CBRN detection and situational awareness technologies to the development of this innovative, pan-European system, by developing a tactical situational awareness software and its interfaces. Based on the current X-System being deployed, Bertin Environics will go one step forward by integrating the software into the global command chain, in particular with operational military softwares.
