Environics' ChemPro100i ranks 1st place for the best innovations in South-East Finland in the last 100 years!

Environics was last Sunday mentioned in the national news, after ranking first place for the region's best innovations. The South-East Finland Innovation Project selected the top ten innovations in Finland for the period of the country's independence (1917-2016), celebrating 100 years in 2017.

The ChemPro100i, is described as an ionizing gas detector, designed to detect gases and chemicals, as well as to identify differences in their different odors. The ChemPro100i is also known as “sniffer”.

South Savo’s next top 3 innovations were Veisto Oy – HewSaw and Moilas bakeries - gluten free products. Kymenlaakso region’s rated innovations were in the year 1920 Mäntysuopa by the Enso-Gutzeit, Xyrofinn’s xylitol and Kaslink’s food products. Whereas in South Karelia the top innovations were the Switch’s Sähkömoottori, Rumple Tools’ Työlennokki and CWP’s wood products through-dyeing method.

The Finnish Confederation of Finnish Inventors (KEKE) explored the possibilities for surveying the best innovations in Finland. As funding was not provided, a "South East Finland Innovation" project was anyway carried out in whole South-East Finland, comprising the regions of Kymenlaakso, South Karelia and South Savonia, from which were selected the top ten innovations for the period of Finland’s independence (1917-2016). The project is part of Suomi 100 program and it’s managed by Kymen Innovaatioyhdistys ry.

Innovation was meant as a commercially successful product, process, technique or method to commercially-invented gadget. It was also required to be quoted in some publication, for example in the newspaper. An innovation is expected to make significant market success, regional impact, employability, internationalization, import substitution, and social impact.

Radiation Survey by Towns of Ukraine using RanidSONNI

From 24th to 29th of July a team of experts of the SSTC NRS (Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety) conducted a survey on Ukrainian territories with potentially radioactively contaminated soils, materials, infrastructures, foodstuff, etc.

RanidSONNI mobile laboratory had a key role on monitoring and processing real-time data, as it can be induced from SSTC NRS dosimetrist Oleksandra Slepchenko´s statement: “We used RanidSONNI reconnaissance vehicle and visited Sarny Forestry, a kindergarten on 17 Soborna Street, Sarny water canal and the central food market. The maximum dose rate of 0.12 microsieverts per hour was recorded on the territory of the forestry; 0.09 in the kindergarten; from 0.06 to 0.12 in the territory of the water canal; from 0.06 to 0.12 in the market. As you can see, the radiation background of the checked objects is within the normal limits”

Even though most of the measurements returned results within the acceptable dosage limits, thanks to the unique features of RanidSONNI, SSTC NRS experts revealed in Novohrad-Volynskyi a building around which an increased gamma- and alpha radiation was detected. Considering that a children’s playground was located not far from the contaminated infrastructure, necessary procedures have been followed.

Civilian residents from the surveyed towns in the regions of Zhytomyr, Volyn and Rivne, had a unique opportunity to use free services of the RanidSONNI mobile laboratory and see if there were any dangerous radiation anomalies around them, as well as getting their own berries, mushrooms, water containers, fat, meat, horseradish, salt, medicinal herbs, tobacco, and many other personal items tested.

For more detailed information regarding the “RADIATION SURVEY by Towns of Ukraine” tour, please check the SSTC NRS website, more precisely the articles from the links bellow:

Besides not being part of the tour mentioned above, RanidSONNI was also an essential tool used by a team of experts from the SSTC NRS when surveying radioactively contaminated materials near Kropyvnytskyi, after unidentified persons conducted unauthorized land works in the area. Once again, regardless of not showing significant increase of dose rate on the territory, the radiation background in Kropyvnytskyi was measured using RanidSONNI mobile reconnaissance vehicle. Indonesian Armed Forces get Enviscreen Operix training

An Enviscreen Operix system software major training session was held in Indonesia during the first two weeks of August.

Environics' committee of specialists was in loco preforming operational demonstrations together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces.

Enviscreen Operix 2016 is a CBRN and environmental monitoring system software solution, providing operators real-time situational awareness. Apart from an extense list of vital key features, Enviscreen Operix integrates a training and simulation tool to maintain operators' competences and situation management skills.

CBRUGS system training session for the Finnish Defence Forces

Environics together with the Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) held a major military training regarding the field operational usage of the new CBRUGS system (Chemical, Biological and Radiological Unattended Ground Sensors).

The rehearsal took place during the days 22nd-23rd August, in central Finland.

This new system enables mobile and wireless CBRN surveillance, with fast field deployment. When displayed with a tactical configuration, it adds significant value to force protection and crisis management.

Additional information on the CBRUGS system can be found here.

EuropeaN Cbrn Innovation for the maRket CLustEr has now started!

Environics would like to announce its partnership with ENCIRCLE Project, as one of the fifteen members Consortium.

ENCIRCLE is a 4-year project designed to improve competitiveness and procurement of CBRN technologies for the advantage of both European CBRN industry and practitioners.

To improve its resilience to new CBRN attacks and threats, the EU needs a specialized, competitive, efficient and sustainable industry. Capitalizing on its experience in the EDEN Demonstration Project, other CBRN relevant projects, and in the CBRN market and supply chain, the ENCIRCLE consortium proposes an innovative approach to reach this goal in a short to long term perspective. Once achieved it will allow SMEs and large industries to deliver and invest in the best innovations on the market.
