Ion Mobility Sensor In the Environics's patented aspiration IMS sample air is drawn continously via the sensor. The sample is first ionised and the formed ions travel with sample gas trough an orthogonal electric field. The field causes separation of different mobilities which are collected by several separate electrodes. Both polarities, positive and negative ions are measured. The signal from the electrodes, the fingerprint vector is characteristic to the measured sample and is used as a detection pattern. Some of the technical advantages of the true aspirating, high flow sensor are extreme sensitivity, fast response and very simple structure. For the end user these words can be rewritten: reliability, usability and low life cycle cost. The Basic simplified principle of the IMS cell's function
